Elisha Yong Journal

Terms of Service

This page explains the terms of service for visitors of Elisha Yong Journal. It is not marketing copy. Read it before you rely on anything published here, and keep it as the record of what you agreed to when you opened the paper.

Last updated 8 October 2026

By reading, browsing, or sending anything to Elisha Yong Journal you accept the conditions set out on this page. If any part of it does not work for you, the remedy is simple: stop using the site. Nothing here limits rights you hold under law, and nothing here replaces advice from your own lawyer.

Using this site

A plain way to think about it: this page is the house rules, kept short enough to actually read.

Elisha Yong Journal is an independent editorial news blog published from Brooklyn, New York. It covers technology, business, policy, sports, local New York stories, and world events. This Terms of Service page defines the conditions under which you may use elishayong.com and everything published on it.

Reading is open to anyone with a connection and a browser. You do not need an account, a paid plan, or permission from us to load a page. What you do not get is a grant of ownership over anything you find here. The text, headlines, photography, page layouts, and the name Elisha Yong Journal belong to this publication and stay with it.

These terms apply whenever you reach the site, whether you arrived from a search result, a shared link, a news aggregator, or a story someone mentioned over coffee. They also apply when you write to us, send a correction, or reply to a newsletter. Where another page on this site states a rule that conflicts with this one, the more specific page wins: for example, the Privacy Policy governs how we handle personal data, and the Cookie Policy explains what is stored on your device.

We publish from the United States and aim these terms at readers anywhere. If a provision here is unenforceable where you live, the rest of the page still stands.

What you may and may not do

You are free to

  • Read, bookmark, and share links to any page on elishayong.com with anyone you like.
  • Quote a passage in your own writing, provided the quotation is accurate and you credit Elisha Yong Journal and name the page you used.
  • Print a page for personal use, or keep a copy for your own records and research notes.
  • Write to the newsroom with a tip, a correction, or a question, as described further down this page.

Please do not

  • Republish whole articles, photography, or page layouts elsewhere, on any platform, without written permission from the newsroom.
  • Scrape the site, take it down, or run automated requests that place a load on our servers beyond normal reading.
  • Use our name, our headlines, or our page designs to suggest that we endorse you, your product, or your cause. We do not endorse third parties by appearing alongside them.
  • Send threats, impersonate a reporter or an editor, or send material you do not have the right to share.

The split is not complicated. Personal reading, quoting with credit, and talking to us are welcome. Copying the work wholesale, pretending to be us, or asking the site to do unpaid labour on your behalf is not. Anyone doing the second list is no longer covered by these terms and may have their access limited or their material removed.

Our reporting and your reliance

We report carefully, but a news blog is not a professional advice service. Stories are written and published on the day they appear, and the facts around a story can move within hours. A figure quoted at a council hearing, a company statement, or a match result is accurate as reported at that moment. It may not describe the situation later in the week.

Nothing on this site is legal, financial, medical, or safety advice. If a story touches your business or your family, treat it as a starting point and confirm the details with the people and documents involved before you act. When we get something wrong, we correct it and note the correction rather than quietly editing the page.

Links out to other websites are provided so you can check a source for yourself. Those sites run under their own terms, and we are not responsible for what they publish, sell, or collect after you leave us.

Pigeonhole rack of metal slots holding folded and rolled proof sheets in a small newspaper office
Proof pages wait in the sorting rack until an editor signs a story off. Ask us which version of a story you are reading and we will tell you.

Letters, comments and corrections

You send

When you send a tip, a letter, a photograph, or a correction, you keep the copyright in what you sent. You give Elisha Yong Journal permission to publish, quote, edit for length and clarity, and archive that material, in print or online, with credit to you unless you ask us not to name you.

We edit

Letters are cut for length, trimmed of personal detail, and checked against our Editorial Standards before they run. We do not change what a letter argues, and we do not publish anonymous attacks on named people. If we cannot verify a claim, we leave it out.

We correct

When a story is wrong, we fix the page and append a dated note saying what changed and why. Corrections are logged rather than erased, so the record of a story stays readable to anyone who comes back to it later.

Do not send confidential material you cannot afford to see published. If you need to talk on background, say so in your first line and we will agree the terms before anything is used.

Availability, liability and changes

The site may be unavailable
We keep elishayong.com online as often as we can, but servers restart, hosting changes, and pages briefly go missing. We do not promise uninterrupted access, and we do not promise that every link, image, or archive page will load on every device.
What we are responsible for
We are responsible for reporting what we can stand behind. We are not responsible for losses you claim came from reading the site, from relying on a story, or from a page that failed to load. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits of liability, so parts of this paragraph may not apply where you live.
Third parties on the page
Advertising, analytics, embedded media, and fonts are served by outside providers. Their scripts run under their own terms, and their failure or misuse is their responsibility, not ours. The Cookie Policy describes what those providers set on your device.
When these terms change
We revise this page when the way we publish changes. The date at the top of the page tells you which version you are reading, and continued use after a revision means you accept the version then in force. Significant changes are noted in the same dated block rather than swapped in silently.

Questions readers ask about these terms

Do I need to agree to these terms to read the site?

By loading a page you accept them. There is no checkbox and no account to open. If you disagree with anything on this page, the way to decline is to stop using elishayong.com; nothing else is required of you.

May I quote an article in my class, newsletter, or research paper?

Yes, as long as the quotation is accurate and the credit names Elisha Yong Journal with the page it came from. Quote the passage itself, not the whole article, and do not present our reporting as your own or as an endorsement of your project.

Can I republish a full story on my own site?

Not without written permission. Send the request to the newsroom email below and describe where the piece would run. Syndicating a headline and a short excerpt with a link back is usually fine; lifting the article body, the photography, or the layout is not.

What happens if a story about my business is wrong?

Write to the newsroom with the page address, the sentence you dispute, and any document that settles it. If the record supports your correction we will fix the page and log the change. If we stand by the story, we will reply and say why.

Do these terms cover the newsletter and the comment threads?

Yes. The same rules cover the newsletter, letters, and any discussion we open under a story. Subscribing to the newsletter also falls under the Privacy Policy, which explains what we store about subscribers and how to leave the list.

Still unsure about something on this page? The newsroom answers questions about its own terms, and the Contact page reaches the same desk that handles corrections.
