Newsroom inbox

Thank You

Your message or newsletter signup has reached the Elisha Yong Journal newsroom. Below is what happens next, who reads it, and how to keep the thread going if you need a reply.

Message received

Everything you send through the site lands in the same newsroom inbox we read each weekday morning. If you wrote about a correction, a tip, or a story idea, it goes to the editor working that beat. If you signed up for the newsletter, the confirmation is queued and the next send will include you.

Reply window — weekdays, 9am to 6pm

Desk — 354 E 31st St, Brooklyn

How the newsroom reads what you sent

A message that arrives on a Tuesday is not always answered on a Tuesday. Here is the actual order we work through the inbox, so you know what waiting looks like on our side.

Corrections and factual challenges go first

If you flagged something we published that you believe is wrong, name the story and the specific sentence. An editor pulls the source material and the reporter's notes before anything else that morning.

News tips get routed to the right beat

Tips on technology, business, policy, sports, local New York and society each land with the editor who runs that section. Say what you saw, where, and roughly when — even a short note we can act on beats a long one we cannot.

Newsletter signups are queued, not answered

Subscribing adds you to the send list; it does not create a reply. If you also need an answer, write to us separately through the contact page so the message opens a thread instead of sitting in a list.

While you wait

Read the section your message belongs to

If you wrote about a technology rollout, a franchise dispute, a city policy vote, or a game from last night, the section page already carries the running coverage. Starting there usually answers the question faster than waiting on a reply, and it gives us a shared reference point if you follow up.

Where your message goes from here

Elisha Yong Journal is an independent editorial news blog covering technology, business, policy, sports, local New York stories, and world events. Every message passes a person, not a queue.

If your message needs a person, not a page

Two quiet paths if you are still waiting on a reply, or if the confirmation above does not match what you sent.

Questions people ask after they hit send

The four things readers usually want to know about a confirmation page: whether it counted, who sees it, and what to do if something went wrong.

Does landing on this page mean my message actually arrived?

Yes. This page is only reached after the site accepts the submission, which is why there is no form here to resubmit. If something fails, the form returns you to the contact page with an error instead.

Who reads what I sent?

Corrections and tips are read by the editor who runs the beat your note belongs to. Newsletter signups are handled by whoever manages the send list. Your email is used to answer you, not to publish anything you did not ask us to publish.

How long should I wait before writing again?

Give it two business days. The newsroom reads Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and a day of reporting gets spent on sources before anyone answers a tip. If it is time-sensitive, say so at the start of the follow-up.

Can I still reach the desk by phone or mail?

Yes. Call 354 E 31st St, Brooklyn, NY 11226 at +18332923148 during weekday hours, or email TheodoreMeyer@elishayong.com and put the story name in the subject line so it routes with your original note.

Keeping the thread open

You do not need to send anything else. If you do want to add context, quote the story name and date you were reading when you wrote. That one line is enough for us to find your original note.

Elisha Yong Journal runs on a small staff and reads its own inbox. If you came here from a newsletter confirmation and you noticed the keyword torchys in a story you were following, the link above still goes to that story.

You are done here

Nothing else is required of you. Head back to the front page to read today's run, or open the archive if you already know which story you were writing about. If you need an answer, contact the newsroom and reference the story name in your note.
